Lord, help us to be fully alive to your holy presence.
Enfold us in your love.
Let our hearts become one with yours.
I cracked open my little blue book with anticipation-- not getting to it until last night!-- but grateful for the quietness of the opening prayers, and a bit unsettled by the Isaiah 63 & 64 reading.
Why am I surprised when the Bible contains verses of violence and judgment? Are they not just as real as God's love and grace?

I, too, was surprised by the opening passage for the study. In fact, I had to read it twice before it even made any sense to me. This response could be because I read it first thing in the morning before coffee! Seriously though, I do have pre-conceived notions that Advent is a quiet time and for the first reading to be more focused on the glory and judgement of God rather than the quietness of God was unexpected and in my opinion, the perfect way to begin the readings.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who had to read it through more than once!
